How To Remove “Get Windows 10” App and Icon From Windows 8.1/8

In recent days you may be noticed your Microsoft windows PC started showing a white windows icon showing in the right notification area especially for those having windows 7 and windows 8 OS is running.

As you know Microsoft is all set to release the official stable version of Microsoft windows 10 with in months of time. Microsoft release this app named “Get Windows 10” in a mission to upgrade most of those windows 7 and windows 8 users to the latest secured version of windows for free when Microsoft officially roll it out.

Today we will show you how to remove that “Get windows 10” icon and application from windows 8.1 and 8.

Using this “Get windows 10” app you can reserve your free upgrade to windows 10 early or you can cancel your windows 10 upgrade reservation but the problem with this application is that it always keeps running in your windows background with a white windows flag icon visible in the system tray. Means you can’t close it.

If you not wish to upgrade to windows 10 for free then this application is not necessary for you. It will download around 3gb of windows 10 set-up files when it is officially available. So if you not wish to go for a free windows upgrade, don’t keep the app in your system.

How to Hide the Get Windows 10 app

Step 1: Just right click on the date/time area in your windows 8.1

Step 2: Go to “customize notification icons”.

Step 3: A new window will pop-up just look for GWX (Get Windows 10)entry in the list and change its value to “Hide icon and notifications” using the drop-down box.

Once you done this means the Get Windows 10 icon may be gone missing in task-bar but it may be running in background. To remove it completely follow below steps.

How To Delete Get Windows 10 Files

Although after using the above mentioned method, you’ll no longer see “Get Windows 10” app and its icon in Windows but if you are still worried about the app, you can delete its executable file and its folder to remove it completely from your computer:

Step 1: Look for the “Get Windows 10” app executable file. This is named as GWX.exe and it will be available in following 2 folders:

  • C:\Windows\System32\GWX

  • C:\Windows\SysWOW64\GWX (in 64-bit systems only)

How To Delete Get Windows 10 Update

Remove the windows update that is responsible for the installation of Get Windows 10 app and icon in the task bar. This windows update file named as KB3035583. Just go to add remove programs and remove KB3035583 windows update from your system.uninstall Get windows 10
