Samsung Unveils Galaxy S III Smartphone: Packed with Amazing New Features

Samsung launched its newest smartphone, the Galaxy S III, amidst worldwide excitement and fanfare this week. The Galaxy S III has been touted as the iPhone’s biggest possible rival, so we will have to see if Samsung is really able to give Apple a run for its money. The date of release in Europe has been pegged on May 29 this year, but there is not fixed release date for the US. Samsung officials have merely stated that the phone will be available for purchase in US markets this summer.

The Galaxy S III operates on the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, otherwise known as Android 4.0. The high definition Super Amoled Display has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, and the touchscreen is comfortably large at 4.8 inches, making it 22% larger than the screen of the previous Galaxy S phone.

Despite the increased screen size, the whole of the phone is actually not noticeably bigger, as the bezel area around the screen has been reduced. Galaxy S III’s screen is much bigger than the 3.5 inch iPhone screen, and even if iPhone increases the size to 4 inches in the next edition as rumor goes, Galaxy S III will still be far ahead. The rear facing camera is a very powerful 8 megapixel one, and to top that, you also get a front camera at 1.9 megapixels.

Smartphone lovers will be thrilled out of their skins to know that the Galaxy S III has voice and face recognition features. Samsung claims that the voice recognition technology is far more advanced that what has been used on smartphones till date. The voice control of the phone will be managed by an ‘s voice’ natural language interface. Another cool feature is the eye movement tracking. The phone will follow your eye movements as you read or surf the net, and will adjust its brightness accordingly, and the screen light will fade to black when you close your eyes.

The Android Beam technology, which works over Near Field Communication, was expanded upon even further by Samsung, and you can share huge files in a matter of minutes, simply by touching two of these phones together

Mobile payment will be facilitated by the NFC chip in the phone, and users will even be able to use this phone to make payments at the London Olympics this year. However, Samsung did not specify which mobile payment softwares will be supported.

Galaxy S III will be equipped with a 2,100 mAh battery, which really beats most of the smartphone currently out in the market. The phone also has a 1.4 Ghz quad-core chip based on the ARM Cortex A9 . The phone has 16GB of internal memory, which can be expanded with a 32 GB micro SD card, and a 64 GB card will also be available soon.
