This Is The Right Tablet For You !

2012 was the year of tablets. Wasn’t it? Didn’t you bring home a tablet last year? So did everyone else. Thousands of tablets came – high end tablets, low end tablets. But 2012 wasn’t the start of it all. In fact, PDAs became available to us by 1990s. Another quite significant era in tablets history was witnessed in 2001 when Microsoft announced that they were going to build a tablet. A pen –enabled tablet. It did come out, but thanks to Microsoft’s wide of the mark strategy, in addition to a big loop hole in their hallucination, Microsoft PC Tablets failed to make much impact.

If you want to get in roots of it all, Alan Kay, American computer scientist was the first to pitch the ideas of the slate device; back in 1972 he published his paper on “A personal computer for children of all ages.” Seeing what it has turned out today, he was quite visionary to see back then. So Microsoft PC Tablets nose-dived, but after almost a decade Apple had found a way. Despite the giant forfeiture of Microsoft in the same category, in the late 2010, Steve Jobs’ belief of making a tablet by using more or less the same recipe formula that they had been using for manufacturing iPhone turned right. The iPad changed everything, and here we are two years to it, flooded with chock-full of tablets.

Two years back, this post had made no sense, because the spot-on and honestly the only answer to the aforementioned in-questioning title would have been iPad. For the first couple of months, there was no rival for this Apple device. Until one day, when hobbled with, an oversized smartphone OS powered with Google’s Android tablet introduced itself to the equation. Although some due credit must be given to Blackberry’s Playbook too, but it soon lost its charm.

Year 2012

Condescending Mayans calendar, Apple had already released unprecedented three tablets, including its 7 inch device, which flourished a broader choice for iOS users. But it was Google which was on the driver’s seat the whole year with the introduction of its own-brand Nexus 7, a high end tablet with a game changing price tag.

Meanwhile, Amazon and Barnes & Noble added high build-quality, top gearing readability tabs Nook HD and Kindle Fire HD to the elite list. Speaking of Kindle, Kindle Fire was the bestselling product on Black Friday. Couldn’t resist this overwhelms, vice-president of Kindle, Jorrit Van der Meulen said: “The reaction has been incredible. Customers purchased more than three times as many Kindle devices on Black Friday than on any other day in the history on Amaon.co.uk, and our previous record was impressive.”

Microsoft joined the tablet party in October with something immense, Windows 8– the Operating System that rightly fits for tablets, and later they released Surface RT which is a striking tablet as well.

Tablets which topped the most selling list were Apple’s fourth generation iPad, Kindle Fire HD, Google Nexus 10, Barnes & Noble Nook HD and Microsoft’s Surface RT and Windows 8 Pro. These tablets were perfect in their own unique ways.

Not to forget, Blackberry 10.0 is coming out this year, so we should not rule it out just yet. Anyway that was the brief history and their current market share. Now let’s find the right tablet for you.

Mini Tablets

Why should you buy mini tablets?

Mini Tablets are good for reading, writing or editing a document file, watching something on the go, playing some games and it can easily fit in your jacket’s pocket.

Nexus 7: Among the best Android tablets yet, this tablet’s performance is not any short of iPad’s, if you buy a lot of movies and songs, this premium Android powered device is perfect for you. If the reason for you wanting a tablet is to watch HD movies, checking and sending emails, browsing the internet, editing documents and photos on the go, this is what you buy. Priced a penny less than 20,000 INR, it comes in two versions, 8 GB and 16 GB. Both having the display resolution of 1280 x 800, powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 Chip the device has 1 GB RAM, and runs on Android Jelly Bean.

Kindle Fire HD: This too is a full featured device, and does almost everything its competitors can. One problem however is, this device is made and subsidized by Amazon. Hence for buying Ebooks, movies and songs you will have to route to its official Amazon store.

Barnes & Noble Nook HD: Device has more or less the same features of Kindle Fire HD’s. Same feature in the sense that this device too is locked and you are made to purchase everything from its official store.

iPad Mini: With all due respect to Google’s Nexus 7, the experience of using this device is unmatchable. iPad Mini comes in 3 versions, one beholding 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. Has Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology, truth been told you won’t be really getting to use this feature much. Its display resolution is 1024 x 768 and is powered by Dual-core A5 processor. The rear 5 MP camera is dashing and will let you record videos in full 1080p HD. Costing a little more than Nexus 7, it is available in most of the online stores.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2: With 1 GHz processor, 3 MP Camera this premium tab from Samsung runs Android ICS. One upright thing, the device has inbuilt 16 GB memory, and can be expanded upto 32 more through micro-SD card. It’s a pretty decent device and a good alternative in its category.

There are couples of more devices that did well in the market, and will cost comparatively light to your wallet. These are HCL ME Y2, Lenovo A2107, different flavors of Micromax Funbook, Karbonn Smart Tab 8, and Zync tab. These all devices run Android ICS; have 1 GB of RAM, and a 1GHz processor holding their backs. But the experience of using them, per performance won’t be very good. Costing half to the premium gadgets in its category will definitely be a sound choice for students, but just so you know, it will be a compromise.

Full-size tablets

If you aren’t satisfied with the small screens of the mini tabs, and want to take it big, literally. This is where you start.

iPad: The fourth generation iPad from Apple, features an unsurpassed build quality, enhancing its gorgeous graphics is Retina display. The ecosystem whether is to buy apps or music from iTunes marks an incredibly sophisticated standard. But just like Amazon products, you will find yourself restricted to move around the locus of Apple’s stores. The cellular + wifi device will cost you around 32,000. Just in case you aren’t in the mood to of spending that much, and find yourself to be lost in the ‘i’ translation.

Nexus 10: This 10 inch tablet is again playing the egg and chicken competition with iPad for determining the first spot. Impressive PLS screen with a resolution of (OMG!) 2660 x 1600, is running the latest Android OS Jelly Bean 4.2. You know you want to take this home.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2: Running Android Ice Cream Sandwich, both these devices has gained a solid reputation in terms of build quality and performance. In a parallel world, Galaxy Note 10.1 is the iPad and Galaxy Tab 2 will be the Nexus 10, but only… not being that good. But however, they are a lot cheaper, and a decent escape from this big bazaar.

Again we have Micromax Funbook and many other good low end devices, and we have a Barnes & Noble Nook HD+ which supports external memory expansion, but again the same old sad song of pushing you to purchase anything and everything off their official store sours the deal to some extent now.
