Easily Enable Two Step Verification For Your Dropbox Account
|Only few days before we heard news about hacking attempt on Dropbox accounts. The dropbox security team responded quickly within days by adding a double layer protection for their account holders.Dropbox calling it as two factor authentication but still an experimental feature.Dropbox already instructed their users to test out the additional security features via their support forum.
Please note that it is an experimental feature for all Dropbox users but I must say all dropbox users must activate this feature considering the recent hacking attempts on dropbox. In order to activate this new two factor authentication you must have the latest beta version of dropbox client .
Presently big players like Google, Blizzard, PayPal or Facebook have added 2-factor authentication to their services that users can opt-in to.Normally in the second layer of authorization the system will ask the user to supply another code that is either generated via email or using their mobile number.
Dropbox presently added this feature to their file synchronization and hosting service and you can experience it if you already installed the dropbox experimental client 1.5.12,Don’t worry if you don’t have it just move on to the dropbox forum, and download it straight away.
Step 1 : Go to the Try Two-Factor authentication page on the Dropbox account page.
Step 2 : Locate the Account sign in part on the page and check Two-step verification entry. Now just enabled it and you will get a new popup window same as below.
Step 3 : Enter your dropbox account password again to get started.
Step 4 : Now you have to choose any options from available two as shown below. You can select to get the security codes sent to your mobile phone, or use an authenticator app instead.I opted for use text message option.
If you opted the mobile phone option you will receive an activation code instantly on your mobile phone and enter that code to activate your account.
Once you done this you will be provided a emergency backup code that can be used to disable two-step verification and access your account if you ever lose your cell phone.
Please also note that the two step verification will be active when you try to log in to your account on the Dropbox website also when you try to conect the new account using the dropbox client.
