Microsoft Will Bring Cloud Services To 7.5 Million Students And Teachers In India

Microsoft got the biggest cloud customer ever ! Microsoft Corp just announced; they will provide cloud services to All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and more than 10000 technical colleges in india.AICTE is the governing body for technical education in India, certifying and managing technical colleges and institutes in the country.

Microsoft bagged this deal by beating Google Inc and IBM .This huge edu cloud deal will bring microsoft cloud services to  7.5 million students and teachers in India.As per the Microsoft sources they already started implementation and it is expected to complete by summer 2012.

Sanket Akerkar, managing director, Microsoft Corp. India Private Ltd., in the statement told,

“Microsoft has always seen education as a priority area and believes that technology offers possibilities that can help empower not just teachers and students but collectively India as a nation,”

Microsoft Live@edu cloud service is hosted communication and collaboration service that offers email, Microsoft Office Web Apps, instant messaging and storage. Dr. S. S. Mantha, chairman of AICTE told to the press,

“Microsoft’s cloud platform will make for a truly progressive ecosystem and contribute to the country’s technical education by providing a better communication and collaboration platform for institutes and students,”
