Turntable.Fm Introduces Android Version Finally
If you are a fan of party music, don’t actually like attending parties, you probably love Turntable. Similarly if you want to be a DJ, but either you are not professionally qualified to get a paid job as one, or the idea of playing music to a room full of loud, near drunk people does not appeal to you, chances are that you practice your DJ skills on Turntable. For the rest of you, who are perhaps wondering what on earth Turntable is, allow us to enlighten you.
Turntable is an immensely popular service for music lovers. It puts groups of people into virtual romms (similar to chat rooms), based on what sort of music they like. There is at least one DJ for every room, and each room can have up to five DJs. In a room, each DJ will get a chance rotationally to play a song. Each DJ’s taste in songs and adroitness in playing music will be commented upon and graded by the listeners in the room, as well as by the remaining for DJs. If too many people give you lame rating, then the software just stops playing your song, and moves on to the next DJ. However, a good score will earn you a good reputation and credential with DJs and players, and will allow them to upgrade their avatar, thus letting newcomers know that you are a DJ with considerable repute.
As a Turntable user, you can join rooms, listen to music, participate in rating DJs, and even try your hand at DJ-ing. Another awesome feature is that you can chat with other music lovers who are currently online. This lets you make friends with people who share your taste, as well as find out what interesting stuff people are listening to.
Turntable was, till recently, available only online, and for iOS. But people who do not use Apple phones or other Apple devices now have a reason to rejoice; Turntable is now available as an app for Android devices too. So Android users too can now carry around this awesome service in their pockets and avail of it whenever they are bored.
So, how awesome is Turntable on Android? Sadly, initial reposts have not been that great. The app has stability issues and tends to crash, particularly when we are trying to open the chat feature. Possibly, the crashes are taking place because so many people are trying to access the service today, and the problem will solve itself as soon as the thronging stops. But in case the problems are a result of a software glitch, we hope Turntable can sort it out and release a corrected update in the near future.
