This issue comes not only in windows xp or windows vista,I see it got popped up in windows 7 and windows 8 too.

Normally people will get worried in this situation and they will do all the tech stuff that they know ! But actually no need to mess it up. Take it easy !! Also don’t work around changing the existing drivers if you are not sure.

When I first faced this issue I take lot of time to resolve it. That time I remember some of my friends suggested me to do some workaround same as below.

Go to Device Manager and uninstall all of the devices under USB Controllers. Restarted the computer, reinstalled the USB drivers,I did the same but the problem still did not go away!

After taking long time working around drivers and registry editing I finally switched off my computer and restarted it again. This worked perfectly. After this incident when ever I get the USB device not recognized error,I just shutdown my computer completely and restart it later.

So my first advice just properly shutdown your PC for few seconds (remove it from power outlet) and restart it.

If you still facing problem you can work around some other settings on your PC.

Disconnect all USB devices, even your USB mouse. Now follow the steps.

  1. Open the Start Menu if you are on windows 7
  2. Type Device Manager in the Search bar and press “Enter”. Click Continue if necessary.
  3. In Device Manger, press Tab and use “Up” and “Down” to move the highlight to “Universal Serial Bus Controllers”.
  4. Press “Right” and expand it.
  5. Press “Down” to move to the first item and press “Delete” to remove it.
  6. Repeat the step 5 and uninstall all items under “Universal Serial Bus Controllers”.
  7. Reboot your PC.

If your issue still not solved please check for the updated USB device drivers using windows update or if you have the chipset driver for your motherboard just run it again because the chipset drivers normally incorporate USB controller drivers as well.
